Chapter Fourteen

After the sex, Molly dozed off. It was as if she’d been carrying this huge load around on her back and was finally unburdened. A sense of freedom washed over her.

All that building, the tension that ratcheted up as she sat there talking nonsense with her friends tonight. When Kay had asked what was wrong, Molly had almost exploded. She rushed off apologizing instead, and would need to make amends for that. The lame text really didn’t explain much. Of course, they were smart ladies and likely recognized this one night she needed to cut the talking short.

She hated to admit it, but tonight she’d needed Jason. After weeks, months even, of insisting he meant nothing she now knew that was wrong. The goal would be to make sure he didn’t mean everything. That meant keeping this light. He liked no strings. She could do that. Just relax and enjoy. Control where this went and how much it meant.

He wasn’t the first man she’d had fun with but nothing else. Holding him in that category might be tough. She’d need to mentally battle over that, but she could do it. Tonight on the drive over to his house she convinced herself this was the right way to move forward. They could have something private and sexy.

Maybe that’s what she really needed all along and just convinced herself their relationship had to be bigger. He didn’t do bigger. Neither did she.

She turned over on her side to face him and his arm tightened around her. The sensation had her stomach flipping around. She decided to ignore that and settle against him, breathe in the scent of his heated skin.

“That was worth a few false starts.” She kept her eyes closed as she skimmed her fingers over his chest. “Not that you going down on me the other day was anything but great.”

“I enjoyed it.”

She lifted her head. “But I’m guessing this was better.”

His eyes popped open. “Trust me, I’m a fan of both.”

She was about to rest her head on his shoulder again when a random thought hit her. Heat rushed to her cheeks. She tried to shake the odd sensation off, but in the back of her head she remembered...oh, damn.

He chuckled beside her. “What the hell are you thinking about?”

“Well...”

“You’re not embarrassed about us having sex, are you?”

“Don’t be ridiculous.” Not about him or anything that happened. But there was one other stray fact that had her mind misfiring. “Was Marcus here when I first came in?”

Jason winced. “Uh, yeah.”

“Like standing in the same room when I walked in.” She replayed the whole scene in slow motion in her head. Yep, standing in the kitchen. She could see him sneaking away at some point, probably not until after she really started talking.

“That would be correct, yes.” Jason chewed on his upper lip but the smile came through.

She pushed up on her elbow and stared down at him. “So I basically announced in front of him that I wanted to have sex with you.
